Fred Whipple is the Vice President of Human Resources – Employee Relations and Diversity for Shell. In this role he leads Employee Relations, Diversity and Workforce Development for Shell in the US. He is responsible for Shell’s overall employee relations and diversity efforts including the Supplier Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity functions and volunteer programs. In addition, Fred has oversight of the company’s support to education and STEM programs.
Prior to his current assignment, Fred was responsible for HR Deep Water Operations for Shell Upstream Americas business. In a previous role, Fred managed the HR support in Shell Upstream America’s Production business responsible for supporting producing operations for the America’s region, from Alaska to Argentina. In this role, Fred led HR teams in Brazil, Venezuela and the US.
In earlier roles he led HR teams supporting the Geismar Louisiana Chemical plant and the US retail gas and electricity business. In the mid-90’s Fred lead the Equal Employment Opportunity function for Shell and was involved in the company’s earliest D&I efforts.
Fred has served on the boards of the National Minority Supplier Diversity Council, SMU Cox School of Business Latino Leadership Initiative, Equal Employment Advisory Council and the Independent Petroleum Association of America’s Education Advisory board. He regularly speaks at external events and has served on, round tables, panels or consulted at events sponsored by the White House, US State Department, German Marshal Fund, and US Coast Guard.
